This should let you make all important skill checks in your base. Buy lockpicking 5, first aid 4, explosives 4. Then you'll level up to 5 when you talk to him a second time after being sneaky with robots. You'll level up to 4 after talking to the Patriarch. Be sure to hit a bunch of skill checks in dialogue, speaking to Jarrett Dorsey you'll get a leadership 2 check, speaking to the Patriarch do the First Aid 2 and Leadership 2 check. Buy first aid 3, mechanics 3, sneaky 3, explosives 3. (Try not to let the turret or Prasad get the kills though, you want as much xp as possible.) They'll level up to 3 after the big fight. This will let you make every skill check in the tutorial and use the turret you find in the final battle. Skills, initially, will be 1 each in nerd, first aid, lockpicking, explosives, sneaky shit, and 2 each in leadership and mechanics. Once you give away the ranger general hat then buy strength up to 2. As they level keep maxing int, then coordination. They shouldn't need it in the first fight but it'll be handy in the other two fights on at the dam. Use the Polar Express rocket launcher for early combat. Give them the Ranger General Hat and the Badge trinket. They'll level fast and power level the team. This character is there to make skill checks and collect XP. You will find a Automatic Weapons skill book early, use it to get Automatic Weapons skill from 9 to 10. Feel free to get 1 rank early for early game animals cats are a good choice once you get the trinket. The 4th skill on this character is Animal Whisperer, but will never need more than 5 ranks. You'll get a Toaster trinket early and if you decide to murder MacTavish you can get Toaster armor as well, freeing up skill points. You can reasonably buy up to Automatic Weapons 9 before you start in on toaster. They'll be handling Toaster Repair and Weird Science but neither is critical in early game. Murderbot starts with all ranks in Automatic Weapon skills. As they rank up, max int, then get cha up to 7. Murderbot starts off with Coordination maxed, 2 ranks in strength, the rest in INT. Murderbot has Disciple of Metal background and Serial Killer quirk. Damage from them is a bonus.Īny build guide is going to be pretty constraining on NPC choices and weapons. And providing more targets for the enemy to shoot at means fewer bullets going in characters you care about. They give solid buffs, outside of combat utility. You only need 1 of the 4 w/ Animal Handling. Correction: Keep MajorTom w/ his stimulant of choice. Don't rely on companions for skills that will be checked during missions. But between these 2, I fill out all the skills I haven't covered in my starting pair. In fact, my infiltrator stayed ahead of my leader in XP until ~15.Ĭharacters 3 and 4 I would make the Mechanic and the Nerd. Because the sheer volume of locks to pick, bombs to defuse, and alarms to circumvent mean that PC will be swimming in XP gain. I prefer this to be a sniper.Ĭharisma builds level quickly. The 2nd I would make your infiltrator: High Intelligence, sneaky, explosives, and lockpicking. Because you want this character to proc multi-kills, leader kills, and (when situation demands) revivals. Of your initial 2, I would suggest making one the leader: High Charisma, high leadership, pick a social skill, and take 1 point of First Aid at creation. And the more of your party is pulling from the same type of ammo, the faster that pool empties. If for no other reason than this: Ammo is a thing that runs out. Similarly, it is useful to have one character versed in each weapon type. Your base squad of 4 should cover all of them without relying on NPCs, with the possible exception of the two I mentioned. And you can just bring her out when you need to use those. And that's because there's a companion that covers them. The only ones that you can skimp on are Survival and Barter. Ranger is plenty difficult for a 1st game.īut as for build guides, the simple truth is this: Every skill is necessary at some point. If this is your first playthrough, I'd highly suggest you not take either of those settings.
